Musselburgh-headquartered Gensource, a prominent sustainable energy specialist, has completed the acquisition of Perth-based solar installation firm Solar Kingdom. This strategic move marks Gensource’s first acquisition since its establishment by founders Josh King and Robert Wilson in December 2022. While the specific financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed, Gensource has confirmed that all jobs and assets associated with Solar Kingdom, including its Perth office, will be fully retained.

The integration of Solar Kingdom into the Gensource Group is set to significantly enhance the company’s residential home energy provision across Scotland. Solar Kingdom, founded in 2009, boasts a 17-year history in domestic solar installations, having served areas including Tayside and Fife from its Crieff headquarters. As part of the acquisition, Solar Kingdom’s owner, Gregor Thake, has joined the Gensource board as an executive director, assuming the role of Technical Delivery Director.

This expansion positions Gensource to deliver a comprehensive, end-to-end offering for both home energy solutions and larger commercial and public sector projects throughout Scotland.

The acquisition comes at a time when the broader energy crisis continues to fuel concerns over household costs, leading to a notable increase in demand for solar panels.

Several reports indicate a surge in interest for solar technology, with some sources linking this rise to geopolitical tensions, specifically a reported “US-Iran conflict” that has impacted global energy markets since early 2026. Gensource is now strategically placed to help address this escalating market need.

Josh King, Managing Director at Gensource, commented on the strategic importance of the acquisition, stating:

“Solar Kingdom has built a trusted reputation in home energy over many years. Bringing that expertise into the Gensource Group strengthens our ability to deliver high-quality residential solar, storage, EV charging and heat pumps across Scotland, growing the scale of the impact that we can make for all energy users, and their bills.”

King further elaborated on the continuity and enhanced capabilities the integration brings:

“We’re not changing what customers value – we’re scaling it. Same trusted team, bigger capability and improved support. By bringing domestic and commercial capability under one group, we can improve coverage, responsiveness and customer support – while keeping the Solar Kingdom experience people trust.”

Gregor Thake, former owner of Solar Kingdom and now Technical Delivery Director at Gensource, expressed his positive outlook on the new partnership: “Since being first introduced to Gensource, I have been impressed with how they go about their business. They have demonstrated they are excellent at what they do and their growing client base is testimony to that.”
