Glasgow-based electric 4X4 manufacturer Munro EV has announced a £2 million funding boost from existing investor Elbow Beach and other contributors, aimed at accelerating production of its pioneering M-Series vehicles. The investment marks a significant milestone for Munro as it targets the mining, defence, and construction sectors- industries where rugged performance and zero emission solutions are increasingly in demand.

Funding Fuels Expansion

The newly acquired £2 million will allow Munro EV to significantly ramp up output at its Glasgow manufacturing facility, addressing customer orders totalling £17 million and creating up to 300 new jobs in the process. The company plans to reach an annual production capacity of 5,000 vehicles within the next six years, with early deliveries already made to Gleneagles Hotel and Denbighshire Council.

JP, co-founder and CEO of Elbow Beach, commented: “Elbow Beach is proud to support Munro, a standout example of Scottish advanced manufacturing. Through its focused approach, Munro is delivering a capital-light solution that accelerates decarbonisation while driving meaningful commercial benefits for the real economy.”

Addressing Sector Needs

Russel Peterson, Co-founder and CEO of Munro EV, emphasised the urgent need for zero-emission vehicles in heavy industry. “Mining companies, defence interests and construction firms are actively seeking alternatives to diesel-powered vehicles, both to meet sustainability targets and reduce operational costs. The M-Series delivers on both fronts without compromising the performance these industries demand,” Peterson stated.

A notable advantage of Munro’s M-Series is its robust payload capacity of 1,000kg and real-world range of over 170 miles per charge, tailored for challenging operational environments such as mines, military deployments, and large construction projects. Peterson highlighted that these vehicles are designed specifically for harsh use—not as lifestyle vehicles modified with aftermarket upgrades, but as purpose-built, off-road electric machines capable of meeting demanding sector standards.

Strategic Development and Innovation

The investment will be channelled into expanding production capacities, recruiting skilled staff, developing custom vehicle specifications, and strengthening sales and service networks across Munro’s key target industries.

Munro’s strategic focus reflects the distinctive requirements of the mining, defence and construction sectors, each demanding exceptional reliability and safety in tough environments. The M-Series has undergone rigorous testing to prove its capabilities, durability, and suitability for mission-critical roles.

The company is well positioned to support pressing national initiatives such as the UK Ministry of Defence’s Land Mobility Strategy, which seeks replacements for its fleet of Land Rover and Pinzgauer vehicles. With its blend of capability, durability, and sustainability, the Munro M-Series stands out as a cleaner, quieter, and more capable solution for operators in the field.

Industry Impact

As industries worldwide face pressure to decarbonise- mining alone accounts for 4-7% of global emissions—the Munro M-Series responds to an unmet need for specialised, emission-free all-terrain commercial vehicles. By supporting both operational goals and environmental imperatives, Munro EV is helping to redefine the future of heavy-duty transport.
