Morris & Spottiswood appoints framework manager to support growing P&M business

Construction firm, Morris & Spottiswood has appointed Doug Cook as framework manager to support its growing production and manufacturing (P&M) business unit.

Morris & Spottiswood’s 10-year growth plans include the expansion of its P&M business, developing the number of strategic partnerships with blue chip companies nationally. As part of this development, the team is expanding to provide both on-site and management expertise to its growing customer base.

As framework manager, Doug will be the main point of contact for clients, ensuring consistent and efficient communications and service delivery. With more than 30 years of construction and engineering experience, Doug has extensive project management expertise working in large food, beverage, and distribution companies. In these roles, Doug had responsibility for delivering seven-figure expansion and refurbishment projects including the removal and installation of process equipment in live food and warehousing environments designed to generate cost savings, site improvement, expansion, and increased production.

Morris & Spottiswood has a strong background in P&M, specialising in working in live environments to build, reconfigure and upgrade production facilities and offices, as well as providing the installation and refurbishment of a wide range of specialist mechanical and electrical equipment. The team has years of experience carefully managing projects whilst ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing processes. Morris & Spottiswood is also supporting its customers with their ESG targets, providing sustainable solutions to reduce energy costs and emissions.

The business currently works with several leading manufacturers. One of its key long-term customers, a leading soft drinks company, has worked with Morris & Spottiswood for seven years on a series of bespoke projects covering mechanical and electrical works, office refurbishments, and building new infrastructure.

Spencer Lee, Director of Production & Manufacturing at Morris & Spottiswood, said: “Our P&M business has been growing steadily for the last few years, and we are now in the process of actively building our team and developing our expertise to expand our offering and meet market demand. While many of our existing colleagues are continuously upskilling, we are also bringing in people like Doug who have years of experience working in live environments. Doug also has specific strengths and expertise in the food and drink sector, which currently makes up the biggest subset within our P&M business and is continuing to grow.

“We work with customers to make their vision a reality, moving from design to delivery with efficiency and cost certainty. We provide bespoke solutions to any number of challenges as an extension of our customers’ teams, truly embedding ourselves into their projects to deliver the best results.”

Doug Cook added: “I’m excited to join Morris & Spottiswood as the P&M business heads into a period of growth. I’ve worked in project management roles across the food and drink manufacturing industry for many years and understand the certainty that our customers are expecting from us. We have a very capable team working across the UK and I’m looking forward to rolling out more projects over the coming months and years.”

Founded in Glasgow in 1925, Morris & Spottiswood operates across the UK in fit-out, M&E, and housing, with offices in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Livingston, Warrington, and Leeds.
