MORGAN Sindall Construction has successfully completed and handed over 13 early years centres worth a combined £13million for the Highland Council.
The new early years centres – which were all built using sustainable building materials and methods – include Ardersier, Bridgend, Obsdale, Auldearn, Avoch, Lochcarron, Duncan Forbes, Muirtown, Croy, Kirkhill, Coulhill, Glenurquhart and Stratherrick Primary Schools.
The scheme now takes the total number of early years places for children which Morgan Sindall Construction’s Inverness office has delivered to 770.
The completion follows the launch of Morgan Sindall Construction’s Intelligent Solutions, a system which brings together digital and platform design capabilities with modern construction methods and innovative carbon reduction tools, to create unique, sustainable and inspiring places for our customers.
Following the ‘De-carbonising Communities’ Strategy, part of Morgan Sindall Construction’s Responsible Business Plan, the contractor worked collaboratively with customers and supply chain partners, to develop and deliver sustainable projects that support Highland Council’s ambitious Net Zero carbon target.
The bundle of works included off-site modern methods of construction utilising refurbished modular units and insulated panel timber system. The modular buildings are one of the most environmentally friendly methods of construction and a highly sustainable alternative to new build and insulated timber kits can perform up to 80% better than building regulation requirements, reducing energy consumption and running costs with waste diversion from landfill sat at 99% across the 13 projects.
In line with the tier one contactor’s 2030 Net Zero goals, Morgan Sindall Construction showed commitment to minimising the impact of its activities on climate change and the communities it worked in by implementing its ISO 14001 environmental management system. The system ensures that it protects the environment; reduces waste and energy consumption; sources construction materials responsibly and minimises disturbance. It also trains its employees and subcontractors on environmental issues and design solutions. The management systems reflect Morgan Sindall’s 5 total commitments to protecting people, developing people, improving the environment, working together with their supply chain and enhancing communities.
To enhance communities, the contractor places high value in the social value and community benefits of its schemes. Throughout construction, it engaged with schools and local community groups, including the donation of reading couches and building outdoor benches, assisting with general maintenance and delivering a school garden to boost the council’s food growing strategy.
All projects have been procured through Scottish Procurement Alliance (SPA); a framework provider that supports the efficient construction, refurbishment and maintenance of social housing and public buildings throughout Scotland and have been delivered on schedule.
