Morar Harbour Home in Musselburgh

MORAR Living, part of Simply UK has invested £20.5m into the Scottish senior living sector with the opening of two new luxury state-of-the-art care homes in Renfrewshire and East Lothian, with both welcoming their first residents.

This investment provides a much-needed injection of confidence in the Scottish senior living sector, following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Morar Living’s Bridge of Weir care home is a £12m, 74-bed purpose-built facility, set in the heart of the beautiful Renfrewshire village; whilst Harbour House is a £8.5m 43-bed newly converted development, located on the Firth of Forth waterfront at Fisherrow Harbour in Musselburgh.

Each home is expertly designed to meet all current Care Inspectorate requirements and provide the highest standards of safety, comfort and care.

Both homes form an integral part of their local community, offering residents with the perfect surroundings to help maintain a more independent lifestyle.

The homes will accommodate residents from both the private and public sectors. Each has private dining areas, hair salon, cinema room. a bar, games room, several lounges and quiet lounges all designed to provide residents with a choice of venue in which to spend their time and socialise with friends old and new.

The homes will provide more than 100 much-needed jobs across the two locations, while the construction projects created almost 120 contractor and site worker positions locally.

Morar Living is committed to delivering the finest care homes in the country while retaining a homely and welcoming ambience. Finished to resemble  well-appointed upmarket hotels, with luxury five-star accommodation, care and service, each home delivers a home from home for residents and reassurance of quality to families.

Director of Care at Morar Living, Linda Meston said:

“Our aim is to develop exemplary new care homes, which provide safe and secure environments for our residents, to enable later life to be lived to the full.

“Enquiries for the new care homes have started taking off as people start to think about their own care needs, or their loved one’s need for care which may have been highlighted or delayed during the pandemic.

“It is great to get the care homes opened, with all the building and fitting out completed. The managers Melanie McGhee at Bridge of Weir and Judith Meaden at Musselburgh are in post and staff have been recruited for the first phases of opening.”

Morar Living currently has more than 200 beds over three new care homes in Scotland – Castlehill in Inverness, which opened earlier this year, Harbour House in Musselburgh and the new Bridge of Weir Care Home in Renfrewshire.

A further three care homes are currently under construction at Perth, Stirling and Helensburgh and are expected to open during 2021.
