M&H Carriers is celebrating an incredible milestone this week after being named winner of the Diversity & Inclusion Leadership Award (250+ employees) at the inaugural Scottish Impact Awards 2025, held on September 16 at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Glasgow.

For M&H Carriers, one of Scotland’s leading delivery and logistics firms, this recognition marks years of determined effort to make logistics a place where everyone – regardless of age, background, or ability – can belong, contribute, and thrive.

Managing Director Fraser MacLean said: “This award means the world to us, as it celebrates the heart of what we do – creating opportunities, supporting people into work, and showing what’s possible when you replace words with action.”

Over the past 18 months alone, M&H Carriers has put inclusion firmly at the centre of its operations. Every depot manager and supervisor has now completed Equality Act 2010 training, giving them the tools to create fair, respectful workplaces. Additionally, more HR-led sessions have encouraged open, honest conversations about professional boundaries, behaviour, and what it truly means to look out for one another as colleagues.

However, more importantly, it is seeing these policies and commitments lived daily across the company’s network of depots. When John Montgomery, a deaf team member, needed a better way to communicate, M&H introduced Sign Live technology so he could engage freely with colleagues and managers. For Bailey and Josh, both autistic and new to full-time work, patient onboarding, mentoring, and regular check-ins gave them the confidence to settle in and build a future with the business.

The company has also prioritised fair opportunities for young people, paying under-18s the same hourly rate as staff aged 23 and over and helping them take their first steps into the world of work. Efforts to make logistics more welcoming for women are also showing results, with more female staff now in leadership positions across Customer Service, Compliance, HR, and Finance, as well as taking on driving and warehouse roles traditionally dominated by men.

And across its 456-strong workforce, M&H represents more than 10 nationalities – using multilingual signage, plain-language onboarding materials, and hands-on guidance from managers to ensure every colleague feels included and supported from day one.

But for Fraser Maclean, it is these individual stories that bring the award to life: “This industry can be tough, and we can be hard on ourselves when things don’t go exactly to plan. But seeing these three individuals – along with colleagues and suppliers who have supported them and our business – all together at the event was something special.

“I was absolutely delighted to win this award, but nothing compares to the feeling of pride I had watching John, Bailey, and Josh go up on stage to receive it.

“And yes – the evening brought its fair share of ‘experiences’ with these three. The kind of moments that keep you on your toes and remind you why having such a diverse team is so rewarding. The laughter, the unpredictability, the shared joy – that’s what made the night unforgettable.”

As M&H Carriers looks to build on the momentum of this incredible win – with new programmes focused on mental health and resilience, embedding inclusion even more deeply across the business – Fraser is now calling on industry peers to do the same.

“This isn’t just about M&H Carriers. It’s about what the whole industry can achieve if we work differently.

“Logistics has a unique opportunity to open its doors wider – to young people, to women, to people who might not see this sector as a place for them. If we put people at the centre, we don’t just create better businesses – we create better futures.”

M&H Carriers is one of Scotland’s leading distributors and hauliers, delivering parcels, freight, pallets and two-person products across the country.
