Ben Sharples joins as Director of Malin Marine

MARINE services company Malin Group has diversified its leadership team with some strong new additions as the organisation continues to grow and widen its offering.

Ben Sharples, an experienced marine engineer with extensive knowledge of design engineering, project engineering and offshore operations, joins as Director of Malin Marine.  He comes to Malin following a highly successful stint at JFD (James Fisher), where he helped transform the subsea company into a world leader – with substantially increased profit and turnover.

Ben plans to harness these skills to significantly grow Malin Marine and its market offering while retaining the agile, customer-focused credentials Malin is renowned for.

Ben Sharples said: “Renowned amongst the industry for its robust heritage and expertise, Malin Marine holds a wealth of experience across a broad array of sectors.  Innovative at its core, the team specialise in devising complex and end-to-end client solutions, firmly focused on the needs of the customer.”

A new Business Development Manager role has been created for oil and gas veteran Alan Hunter, who will focus on strengthening Malin’s links with the industry.  Hunter brings over 30 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry, where he worked with companies including Shell and Worley on major construction projects and operating plants.

He explained: “I’ve worked in oil and gas my whole life and during my time at DHL, I was fortunate enough to work with Malin on a very successful project for which their technical expertise was critical.

“I am excited about demonstrating the extent of that expertise to a wider audience within the industry and the value it can add to their businesses.”

Malin has also appointed Stephanie Collins as Business Unit Manager of its ship mobilisation arm Malin React, who specialise in the rapid installation of offshore equipment.

Stephanie, a vessels and logistics expert will be responsible for all aspects of business development for Malin React. Having worked in Angola, Egypt and Namibia, she will utilise her extensive international experience to demonstrate that high standard mobilisations can be delivered regardless of location.

Collins brings 20 years of experience to the role and worked previously with Swissport, Super maritime Group and Helix Energy Solutions.

Ms Collins said: ““I have joined Malin at an exciting time for the group and I am looking forward to the next 5-10 years, with the growth and innovation that will bring.  I have delivered over 100 vessel mobilisations, many in the most challenging and remote locations, and now have the opportunity to build on this experience with Malin React, to offer clients the same high standard of mobilisation, regardless of location.”

Meanwhile Malin’s specialist welding division – John Tracey Specialist Welding (JTSW) – has brought in ex oil and gas senior engineer Iain Wilson to help shape the company as it moves into a new chapter at the Scottish Marine Technology Park.  Iain Wilson joins as General Manager of JTSW, 20 years after he was accredited by the company as a trainee.

John MacSween, Malin Group Managing Director said: “As an organisation, we value innovation combined with expertise, reflected through a customer focused approach. These new opportunities enable us to further grow our range of specialist services to deliver real benefit to our client base.
