Loganair has launched operations from Southampton Airport, opening its newest base as part of a wider push to strengthen regional air links across the UK. The airline will ramp up its presence over the coming months, with two aircraft to be permanently based on the South Coast by March 2026.
Loganair’s Southampton base marks a “significant milestone” in the carrier’s regional connectivity strategy, positioning the airport as a key hub in its growing domestic network. Operations will progressively build through early 2026, with the base reaching full capacity in March when two ATR-72 aircraft are permanently stationed at the airport.
The move follows earlier investment announcements confirming Southampton as Loganair’s tenth UK base and underlines its commitment to serving both mainland and island communities. By basing aircraft locally, the airline aims to improve operational resilience and offer more reliable schedules for customers in the region.
The Southampton base supports a growing portfolio of routes, including services to Manchester and Edinburgh, which are central to Loganair’s network strategy. The Manchester link, launched in late 2025, is timed to enable onward domestic connections to destinations such as Inverness, Aberdeen and the Isle of Man.
Passengers also benefit from through-ticketing and checked-through luggage via Loganair’s partnerships with carriers including Emirates, Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines, Singapore Airlines and Aer Lingus. This connectivity allows travellers from the South Coast to access a wide range of long-haul destinations with a single booking and seamless transfers.
Establishing a permanent base is expected to bring tangible economic benefits to Southampton and the wider Hampshire region. The investment will support around 50 locally based roles, spanning pilots, cabin crew and engineering positions, alongside wider indirect employment in airport services and the visitor economy.
Airport executives have welcomed the move as a vote of confidence in Southampton’s role as a regional gateway, highlighting the value of improved connectivity for local businesses and inbound tourism. The additional capacity – more than 140,000 extra seats a year across the network – is expected to stimulate both business and leisure travel from the South Coast.
Loganair enters the next phase of its growth with a strong operational track record, having been named the most punctual airline for UK arrivals and departures in the second quarter of 2025 by the Civil Aviation Authority. The carrier also scored highly in consumer research, earning praise for customer service and overall experience in Which?’s short-haul airline survey.
In Case You Missed It:
Customers travelling from Southampton can expect the airline’s familiar inclusive offering, with luggage allowances, allocated seating and in-flight refreshments bundled into fares. The combination of punctual performance, regional focus and a locally based operation is intended to position Loganair as a dependable choice for South Coast travellers.
Loganair’s leadership describes the Southampton base as a logical and important strategic step for the UK’s largest regional airline. By deepening its presence on the South Coast, the carrier is seeking to close gaps in domestic connectivity and provide a more robust alternative to lengthy rail or road journeys.
As operations scale up to full capacity by March 2026, Southampton is set to play an increasingly central role in Loganair’s UK network, connecting local passengers to both key regional cities and global hubs. Flights from the new base are available to book via loganair.co.uk and through travel agents.
