Lloyds Bank and Halifax customers faced a fresh wave of banking disruptions on Monday morning, with both apps experiencing technical issues that left users struggling to make and receive payments.

The problems began around 7am, according to service tracking site Downdetector, with hundreds of reports of outages across the two banks, which are both part of the Lloyds Banking Group.

In response to customer complaints on social media, Lloyds and Halifax acknowledged the issues, stating: “We know some customers are having issues making or receiving payments. We’re sorry for this and are working to have everything back to normal.”

Later, Lloyds added that the issue appeared to be specifically affecting incoming payments but assured customers that online, app, and telephone banking services remained accessible.

This outage follows a major IT failure at Barclays last Friday, which persisted through the weekend and left many unable to access their funds or complete transactions.

The latest disruptions come at a time when many high street banks, including Lloyds and Halifax, are set to close branches, increasing reliance on digital banking. While no explanation has been provided for the technical fault, customers have expressed frustration over the growing number of online banking failures in recent months.
