Law firm Shoosmiths has underlined its reputation for delivering robust, commercially focused results for its real estate client base in Scotland and throughout the UK. It follows its completion of a flagship letting on behalf of Kadans Science Partner (Kadans) of 40,000 sq ft to Chemify, a pioneer in the development of pharmaceuticals and biotechnology in the Health Innovation Hub (HIH), a new purpose-built life science facility at Govan, in Glasgow.

The impressive 87,000 sq ft facility at HIH is being delivered by Kadans in collaboration with The Living Laboratory, a partnership made up of the University of Glasgow, Scottish Enterprise and Glasgow City Council. The facility secured £27.5m City Deal funding, an additional £38m from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Strength in Places fund and over £22 million from industry partners.

Shoosmiths has been appointed to act on the lettings at HIH for Kadans, a leading science park real estate developer with a strong UK and European footprint, including 300+ science clusters in 6 countries.

The tenants at HIH benefit from flexible laboratory and office accommodation to help advance their cutting-edge and innovative life science technologies. The lettings, of which Chemify is one of the first, will now attract several hundred experts working in the life science sector to HIH in Govan, which will also be a significant boost for the local economy.

Located within the Glasgow Riverside Innovation District and adjacent to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Shoosmiths has advised Kadans to successfully attract top tier life science tenants to HIH.  The letting to Chemify, in which Rydens advised Chemify, represents the largest commercial let secured this year to date in Glasgow’s life science sector.

Other lettings secured include to Digital Health Validation Lab (DHVL), which is a partnership between NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde and University of Glasgow. DHVL provides essential expertise (including Investment and regulatory advice) to support innovators in the life science sector space.

Barry McKeown, head of Shoosmiths Glasgow office and a real estate partner, commented: “Kadans Science Partner has an enviable reputation within the UK and European real estate sector for planning and delivering impressive commercial builds that attract top-tier life science innovators and operators.

“The Health Innovation Hub is a fantastic facility and I’m very proud that Shoosmiths real estate team in Scotland was invited by Kadans to apply our legal and commercial expertise for such a prestigious project. The Kadans real estate team at Shoosmiths is comprised of myself, Megan McDonald and Rachael McCallum. We wish the HIH and its partners every success.”
