Larkhall & District Volunteer Group has strengthened its community reach and future sustainability after transforming its online presence with support from Business Gateway.
Founded in 1994, the Lanarkshire-based charity is dedicated to reducing social isolation by promoting health, wellbeing and meaningful connection. It delivers a wide range of inclusive activities, practical services and volunteering opportunities for residents across Larkhall, Stonehouse, Ashgill and Netherburn.
The organisation worked closely with Senior Business Gateway Adviser Craig MacFarlane, who provided tailored one-to-one support to identify opportunities for growth. During these discussions, it emerged that the security certificate on the charity’s existing website had expired, prompting a wider review of its digital presence.
Recognising the need for a complete overhaul, Business Gateway facilitated five days of fully funded IT consultancy. This specialist support enabled the charity to develop a modern, user-friendly website that more accurately reflects the breadth and quality of its services.
Previously, the website had been managed externally by a volunteer, which made regular updates challenging. As a result, the charity faced difficulties in promoting its services, generating income and raising awareness of its work. The outdated platform also limited its ability to showcase facilities available for hire, restricting valuable revenue opportunities.
The newly launched website is sleek, accessible and easy to navigate, clearly communicating the organisation’s mission and community impact. It also provides an improved platform to promote room hire and other income-generating activities, supporting the charity’s long-term financial sustainability.
Craig MacFarlane, Senior Business Adviser at Business Gateway, said: “Larkhall & District Volunteer Group provides invaluable support to the local community, and it was clear that its website no longer reflected the quality and range of services offered. By accessing fully funded digital support, the charity has been able to create a professional online presence that will help raise awareness, attract new users and support future income generation.”
Sandra McCrory, Charity Manager (CEO) at Larkhall & District Volunteer Group, added: “We absolutely love the look and feel of the new website. Thanks again to everyone involved in making this a smooth transition. The new website gives us a much stronger platform to showcase what we do, connect with our community and support the future growth of the organisation.”
