Kanthal has officially inaugurated its £8 million expansion at its Perth manufacturing facility, in a move that strengthens its long-term commitment to Scotland, supports the shift to low-carbon industrial heating technologies and delivers a welcome boost to the local economy.

The expansion adds 1,750 m² of manufacturing space and increases production capacity by around 40%, helping the company meet rising demand for its Globar® silicon carbide heating elements. These are used in high-temperature industrial applications across sectors including electronics, glass and steel.

Scott Lawson, Production Unit Manager, told Scottish Business News: “The expansion means more than increased capacity for Perth—it represents a long-term commitment to our community and our people. By scaling up production of our silicon carbide technologies, we’re ensuring that the innovation happening here supports industries worldwide in their transition to cleaner, more efficient heating.”

The Perth site, alongside a service centre in Concord, North Carolina, will play an increasingly important role in supplying electric heating solutions to customers around the world as industry seeks to reduce CO₂ emissions and move away from fossil-fuel-based heating.

The official opening on Tuesday, 24 March, included a ribbon-cutting ceremony, speeches from senior leadership and guided tours of the facility.
