JLL’s Glasgow office has been recognised as one of Scotland’s most sustainable and inclusive after being awarded WELL Platinum status by the International Well Building Institute (IWBI), the leading global rating system focussed on enhancing health and wellbeing in the workplace.

The office sits on the top floor of the Sentinel building on Waterloo Street and has received the certification for its best in class environmental, wellbeing and tech credentials.

It was built using FSC-sourced timber, recycled worktops, clay walls and second life furniture. JLL’s fit out complied with zero waste to landfill, whilst its design and operation has significantly reduced the space’s embodied and operational carbon since its occupation at the beginning of 2023.

It has also been recognised for its social value, with JLL supporting local charities and hosting construction workshops for people to discuss mental health.

The office, which was also awarded Ska Gold by RICS for sustainable refurbishment, features a roof garden with edible plants and has been designed with employee wellbeing and productivity front of mind, with daylight, biophilia and air quality major areas of focus.

JLL’s in-house teams oversaw the full project with its Office Agency team sourcing the space, its Project & Development Services division responsible for project and cost management, with Sustainability Consulting & Sustainable Asset Services teams supporting the delivery of WELL and an embodied carbon assessment. Tetris, JLL’s in-house design company, designed the office to be a vibrant, welcoming space to showcase the local business whilst meeting the ambitious sustainability brief.

Niall Robertson, Director for Building Consultancy at JLL, said: “Making buildings more environmentally and socially sustainable is crucial to our future wellbeing.

“But it’s also on organisations like JLL, with the means and knowledge at our disposal, to lead the charge.

“We’ve done that from the outset in Glasgow. Achieving WELL Platinum accreditation is a fantastic accolade for everyone involved in this project, and we are committed to using our expertise to help our clients make their own spaces more sustainable, inclusive and productive.”
