JCESS, the Glasgow-based electrical engineering specialist behind an innovative embedded sensor technology, has announced a strategic collaboration with digital technology firm Konpanion to accelerate the commercial development of its intelligent monitoring platform.
The partnership will see JCESS’s proven sensor technology integrated with Konpanion’s application programming interface (API), operating system and data management platform. The combined solution will be trialled live at The National Robotarium in Edinburgh, providing a real-world environment to test performance, scalability and integration.
JCESS has already demonstrated the effectiveness of its technology across a range of settings, including football stadiums, shopping centres and care homes. This latest project marks the next phase of its commercial journey, focusing on how the sensor can operate within a broader digital ecosystem capable of transforming raw data into structured, real-time insights.
At the core of the innovation is a discreetly designed sensor that can be embedded within a standard light fitting. This approach enables sophisticated environmental monitoring without the need for intrusive installations, additional wiring or standalone equipment. By leveraging existing infrastructure, the system offers a highly scalable solution suitable for both new builds and retrofit projects with minimal disruption.
Through its collaboration with Konpanion, JCESS aims to demonstrate how intelligent sensing can move beyond simple detection to deliver meaningful operational insights. The integrated platform is designed to support data-driven decision-making across a wide range of applications, including smart buildings, facilities management, assisted living, workplace safety, security and occupancy monitoring.
The National Robotarium, internationally recognised for its work in robotics and artificial intelligence, provides an ideal testing ground for the initiative. The facility will enable both companies to evaluate the resilience, reliability and commercial viability of the integrated system under real-world conditions.
