Inverness is facing severe travel disruptions today as both ScotRail trains and Stagecoach buses have experienced widespread cancellations.
ScotRail has announced the cancellation of 12 services between Inverness and Elgin due to a train fault, with disruptions expected to last until the end of the day. This comes as a significant blow to travellers relying on this vital connection between the Highland capital and Moray.
Adding to the chaos, Stagecoach has cancelled 50 bus services in Inverness today, citing “unforeseen circumstances”. This mass cancellation follows the operator’s admission of ongoing driver shortages that have plagued the company for over a year, resulting in frequent service disruptions.
In a statement released last month, a spokesperson said: “We apologise for the recent service disruptions. While we’re making progress in recruiting drivers in Inverness, it takes time to complete their training.
“We’re doing our best to operate as many journeys as possible with our current resources and expect service to improve.”
Bus routes 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and 16 are affected by today’s cancellations.
ScotRail first said that the rail disruption was due to a train fault between the Highland capital and the Moray town.
However, the latest information on the incident reveals it has been caused by “multiple train faults” with the fleet at Inverness.
Trains running to and from these stations will be cancelled, delayed or revised.
Disruption is expected to last until the end of the day.
