Energy data specialist IMSERV has expanded its Scottish operations through the acquisition of SP Dataserve, the former ScottishPower commercial metering and data services business.

The move expands IMSERV’s technical and operational capabilities across Scotland and strengthens its position in key areas including complex metering, asset management, engineering services and energy data solutions.

Operating as IMSERV Scotland, the business will combine SP Dataserve’s long-established Scottish expertise with IMSERV’s national scale, technical capability and investment in advanced data services.

The Scottish operation already supports a significant customer base across the country, including 66 per cent of Scottish councils, more than 100 windfarms, seven universities and 76 multi-site customers operating more than 10 locations.

The acquisition also significantly expands IMSERV’s presence across Scotland at a time of major change within the energy sector, as businesses and suppliers prepare for Market-wide Half-Hourly Settlement (MHHS).

Jo Cox, CEO of IMSERV, said: “This acquisition strengthens our capabilities across Scotland and allows us to bring wider technical expertise, deeper operational support and enhanced data services to customers.

“IMSERV will bring a wealth of experience in services such as sub-metering, best in class operations and a highly trained technical field team.

“We have also been developing a leading data platform which will give customers far greater visibility of their energy data and assets.”

Over the next six months, IMSERV will fully integrate the SP Dataserve business into IMSERV Scotland, with East Kilbride becoming a strategic hub for the company’s Scottish operations.

IMSERV said the acquisition would expand the services available to Scottish customers, including enhanced data capabilities, specialist engineering support, sub-metering expertise, gas metering services and access to the company’s AstralTech platform.

The business said the move would also strengthen support for customers operating complex energy infrastructure, renewable generation assets and large multi-site operations requiring highly accurate metering and data collection services.

Jo added: “The SP Dataserve team brings highly skilled operational and engineering expertise into the IMSERV business, helping us continue our focus on asset management and data accuracy, both of which are critical as customers prepare for MHHS.

“This is about building a stronger and broader business in Scotland that gives customers access to more services, more expertise and greater support for the future.”

IMSERV Scotland will continue supporting existing customers through the same experienced local teams, while benefiting from wider investment and expanded technical capability.

The combined Scottish team brings 817 years of industry experience into IMSERV, with an average of 25 years’ experience per employee across the business.

The Scottish business includes expertise in Central Volume Allocation (CVA), bespoke metering solutions and Current Transformer (CT) metering services, supporting customers across sectors including utilities, manufacturing, retail, public sector, hospitality and renewable energy.
