Home Bargains has invested approximately £1 million in its new store in Glasgow, which will be officially opened at 8.00 am on Saturday 3rd July 2021.
As one of the UK’s largest family-run retailers, Home Bargains is creating 54 new jobs in the local community with its store on Summerston Retail Park. In total, the store will employ 57 team members, including a few staff who will be transferring from local stores.
It will also be donating £2,000 to local charity Sunshine Wishes Children’s Charity, which was set up in 2016 to grant wishes for sick and terminally ill children, children with additional needs as well as families from disadvantaged backgrounds. Since March 2020, however, the charity’s main focus has been to supply essential food and care parcels to families most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Linda Ford, from Sunshine Wishes Children’s Charity, said: “What an amazing donation from Home Bargains. This contribution will allow Sunshine Wishes Children’s Charity to continue aiding those in the local community who need it most. Simply, your generosity makes it all possible.”
The new Glasgow store will join over 500 outlets across the UK. Opening approximately 50 stores a year, Home Bargains is bucking current trends in the industry.
Sarah-Louise Smith, the new Glasgow store manager, said: “It’s a huge honour to be opening our new Glasgow store this weekend and something that I’m exceptionally proud of.
“Having started my Home Bargains journey just over a year ago, it’s exciting to be in this position and to be launching the new Summerston Retail Park store alongside such a fantastic team.”
The 17,362 sq ft store, which has been newly developed, will offer shoppers a range of products, including homewares, health and beauty essentials, sweets, snacks and drinks, as well as fresh and frozen food.
Sarah-Louise added: “Summerston Retail Park will be a great location for us and we’re proud to be able to offer local people top-branded goods at exceptionally low prices.”
