H&M has confirmed it will close its Edinburgh call centre by the end of this year, resulting in the loss of 150 jobs. The closure will take place at the Waverley Gate site, with operations ceasing on 14 December and the site fully shutting down by March 2025.
The decision comes after staff were informed in August about the proposal to close the office due to the lease expiring in 2025. H&M cited increased competition, changing customer behaviours, and rising operational costs as reasons for the closure.
In a statement, H&M said: “We constantly evaluate how we operate to ensure that we deliver on our goals and contribute to the overall success of the company.
Having looked into the scope of our customer service set-up, increased competition in the market, our customers’ changing behaviours and expectations, and operational costs, we have made the difficult decision to proceed with the proposed closure of our customer service site in Edinburgh by the end of the year.”The company has been consulting with staff since September.
It was revealed that while 150 jobs are expected to be lost, some employees have found alternative roles within the company or elsewhere, while others have opted for voluntary redundancy.
