Hibs players tell their Xmas dinner secrets

Hibernian FC players reveal their family dinner secrets as part of Utilita and Iceland’s Shop Smart, Cook Savvy campaign. Left to Right: Lewis Stevenson, Chris Cadden, Bryan Keenan (Head Chef), Harry McKirdy and Will Fish

HIBERNIAN FC have teamed up with their loyal front of shirt sponsor Utilita and Iceland and The Food Warehouse to educate locals on how to cook a delicious Christmas dinner for four people for under £20 this year. Utilita and the Hibernian Community Foundation have also teamed up to treat 500 people in the local community to a delicious Christmas Dinner.

After Utilita and Iceland’s Shop Smart, Cook Savvy campaign sent the popularity of air fryers rocketing this summer, the retailer has launched an air-fryer friendly Christmas dinner for four people for under £20, and the star of the show – a luxury turkey joint which costs just 95p to cook.

As a bit of fun – and to promote the importance of using more energy-efficient cooking appliances to save energy – two English players took on two Scottish players to compete in a guess the cost of the dinner quiz – see the video here

Without a drop of wine in sight, the players were quick to share some home cooking truths, with one player dishing the dirt on his aunt’s ‘horrendous’ Christmas dinner, another admitting he could ‘nail about 10 pigs in blankets in one sitting’, and another claiming chicken nuggets are a must for his Christmas dinner plate.

Bryan Keenan, Hibernian FC’s Head Chef commented:

“Christmas dinner should be the best meal of the year, and we’ve proven that it doesn’t need to break the bank. We hope this campaign helps households to really understand the huge savings we can make by thinking differently about how we cook at home. Air fryers and microwaves are used by some of the best chefs in the world, and every time we use them, we are saving the pocket and the planet.”

Utilita’s Group Partnerships Manager, James Heyes, commented on the campaign:

“Being a proud Hibs partner since 2017, each year Utilita identifies new ways we can help the local community. This year we are making a huge effort to deliver a delicious Christmas dinner directly to the doors of the Leith community and at the home of the Hibees, Easter Road on Christmas day. For everyone else we hope the Shop Smart, Cook Savvy campaign, which can save households up to £426 a year on their energy costs, will go a long way in helping to stretch budgets further.”
