HAUS Architects 18-Storey Aparthotel in Glasgow Approved

13/09/2023

ARCHITECTURE studio HAUS Collective’s design for an 18-storey ‘Aparthotel’ in Glasgow city centre has received unanimous approval by Glasgow City Council’s planning committee (Tuesday 12 September). Commissioned by PMI Developments and Peveril Securities, this ambitious project is poised to transform part of the city’s skyline.

This is the latest project for architecture studio HAUS Collective, which is currently delivering several major projects across Scotland, including the new BT regional headquarters and student accommodation development at Greenmarket in Dundee.

The 161-unit aparthotel will replace the current unoccupied flat-roofed concrete building on the corner of Cambridge Street and Renfrew Street. The new building will combine luxury guestrooms with the services of a hotel, including a lounge, bar, staff offices, and laundry facilities.

The façade has been designed to complement neighbouring buildings through thoughtful design and material choices. Two types of stone finishes will be used – textured stone finish for the main architectural elements and smooth stone finish panels for the secondary areas. Windows have a bold chevron design on the ground floor, and on the upper floors, there will be a subtle chevron design and accent details on floors six and seven, where the building depth shifts. Tying together the exterior design is an outdoor patio on the sixth floor, which separates the lower and upper sections of the building.

HAUS Co-founder Murray Henderson said: “Our commitment to excellence and contemporary design is evident in this aparthotel, which has been recognised by planners for its ‘bold, modern and refined architectural response’ in a previously overlooked area. The positive reception from Glasgow City Council’s planning committee is a testament to our team’s dedication and expertise. Working with PMI Developments and Peveril Securities has been a pleasure, and we look forward to bringing this project to life.”

Peveril Securities Director Chris Kirkland said, “This aparthotel will bolster Glasgow’s tourism, providing additional high-quality accommodation and will attract more visitors to this premier shopping area.”
