Solar panels newly installed on the rooftop of Glasgow Taxis Ltd’s operational headquarters in the city is an investment the company says will benefit them now and for years to come.

Glasgow Taxis already boast more than 150 electric vehicles in their overall fleet, a fleet which is the biggest in the UK outside London, and this capital investment is a further show of the company’s commitment to green energy.

The installation of the large solar panels on the roof of Glasgow Taxis’ Boden Street base in the city’s east end is expected to reduce their overall carbon footprint as an organisation, as well as increasing tax efficiency.

Dougie McPherson, Glasgow Taxis chairman, said: “This is something we at Glasgow Taxis have been discussing and planning for some time now and we are very happy to get to this stage. Primarily it made financial sense to invest now and benefit later.

“The nature of this capital investment increases tax efficiency and demonstrates that Glasgow Taxis Ltd have made another solid commitment to reducing our carbon footprint, something which will continue to be an important area of focus.

“As the market leading taxi company in Glasgow, and one which partners with many of the city’s businesses and attractions, we are willing to play our part in supporting them to achieve their carbon reduction goals.”

Earlier this year, a new feature introduced on the Glasgow Taxis app enabled customers to select their preference for an electric vehicle at the point of booking. The new service came in response to growing demand, driven by environmental concerns, government incentives, and consumer preference for green transportation, particularly within the corporate market.

The Glasgow Taxis app makes booking with Glasgow Taxis safe, simple and easy to track. Download it now for Apple via the App Store and Android devices via Google Play.
