THE latest data from AptPay has revealed that Glasgow is the second most desired city for people looking to start a business in the UK.

Using a seed list of the UK’s 50 most populated cities, the team at the London-based financial support firm accessed the search volume for terms such as ‘commercial property for sale’, ‘office space for sale’, ‘shop for sale’ and ‘office to rent’ across a period of one year, May 2023 to May 2024.

By analysing Google search volume in the UK for various locations across the country, the team discovered the top cities where people want to set up a business.

The research revealed that Glasgow takes the second spot, with 2,090 average monthly searches for buying and renting-related terms in the last year. Scotland’s largest city falls just behind London, which takes the top spot at 2,610 searches.

A spokesperson at AptPay commented:

“Our research not only highlights the top hotspots for new businesses but also provides new business owners with a clear picture of how competitive each area is and the potential growth opportunities. Not to mention, it highlights to residents in these areas that things are picking up and they can expect new businesses to open up, bringing fresh services, job opportunities, and a boost to the local economy. It’s an exciting time for both business owners and the communities they serve, as this growth signals a vibrant and thriving future for these cities.”
