ELANIC Medical’s new private Glasgow hospital has been recognised as a healthcare provider by two of the UK’s largest health insurance schemes, a landmark achievement that will extend choice and offer a new route to timely treatment.

Bupa UK and Vitality Health Insurance customers can now access consultations and surgery at Elanic Hospital Glasgow, a new purpose-built city centre facility. It offers a select range of elective treatments including hip, knee, hand and shoulder procedures, as well as some general surgery.

The hospital is the third of its kind in the West of Scotland to be approved as a provider of healthcare to private insurance scheme members. To become recognised by private insurance schemes, hospitals must meet stringent medical professional standards and comply with all regulatory requirements.

Bupa UK Insurance has 2.3 million customers and Vitality has approximately 1.7 million members across the UK.

Elanic Hospital Glasgow, which is already offering consultations and will open fully in the coming weeks, features both a state-of-the-art ultra clean airflow operating theatre and a day surgery theatre, also equipped with industry-leading technology.

While most procedures will be carried out as day surgeries to aid recovery and reduce infection risk, the hospital incorporates an overnight ward including a specialist high dependency care bedroom for patients who may require it.

Its innovative model, which focuses on the most sought-after treatments, was developed by consultant plastic surgeons, CEO Vivek Sivarajan and director CJ Tollan Sivarajan, who founded leading UK cosmetic surgery practice, Elanic Clinic, more than 10 years ago.

Kristian Campbell, managing director, Elanic Group, said: “This is a watershed moment for our new hospital, but much more importantly offers a route to timely treatment for those who are seeking immediate treatment because of chronic pain or because they need to get back to work.

“Individuals covered by Bupa and Vitality’s insurance schemes can now visit their GP and be referred to us and seen within a matter of days, or they can simply go straight to their insurance provider and ask to see one of our surgeons.

“We’re already booking consultations, and we look forward to welcoming even more patients now that they can access Elanic via their private healthcare.”
