ELITE Contract Furniture was founded in 1954, supplying the highest quality, bespoke contract furniture to businesses around the UK for nearly 70 years. The team are excited to share the news of their new location in Thornliebank.
The story of Elite is one of hard work, determination, and passion. Elite’s founder, Fred Weiss, came to Glasgow as a refugee from Austria, being placed with a family in the Gorbals at the young age of 18. Working numerous jobs, he found passion in a local bedding company where he learned the ins and outs of the industry. Starting as a floor worker, he quickly made his way up to role of manager. Working hard and saving his money, Fred was soon able to start his own bedding company he would come to name Elite. Initially making mattresses by hand then delivering them in his family car, he grew the business to employ over 20 people, becoming Elite Contract Furniture.
Today Fred’s daughter, Betsy Winson, is Managing Director of Elite. She continues to build on her father’s legacy, providing personal service with great attention to detail. Her son, Greg Winston, is the current Director bringing another generation into the centre of the business.
Ahead of their 70th anniversary in a few months, the team are pleased to share their next move with the opening of their brand-new showroom. Moving from Hillington Park, Elite have opened their brand-new showroom based in Thornliebank. With a modern, commercial style showroom, there is a great range of furniture and accessories on display for you to browse.
Managing Director Betsy shared her thoughts on the move:
“I am excited to start the next chapter of Elite ahead of our anniversary next year. 70 years of trading is a fantastic achievement for the team and I am proud to continue my father’s legacy. I look forward to seeing what the next 70 might bring for the business.”
