Around 100 Glasgow Airport workers are set to take part in a 48-hour strike later this month amid an ongoing pay dispute.
Members of Unite the union – including airside support officers, engineers and managers – are due to walk out from 06:00 on 24 July until 05:59 on 26 July. The strike action is scheduled to coincide with the busy Glasgow Fair holiday period.
This marks the first major industrial action at the airport since it was acquired by AviAlliance in January, following the £1.53bn purchase of AGS Airports, which also owns Aberdeen and Southampton airports.
Glasgow Airport management said they were “extremely disappointed” by the decision and confirmed they will move ahead with contingency plans aimed at reducing disruption for passengers and airlines.
In Case You Missed It:
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said the walkout was now “inevitable unless Glasgow Airport’s owners come to their senses,” adding: “We will support our members every step of the way in their fight for better jobs, pay and conditions.”
The latest 4% pay offer was rejected by 75 Unite members, despite the airport maintaining that several improved offers have been made since talks began in March.
In separate disputes, 250 security staff employed by contractor ICTS have now accepted a 5% pay rise. Meanwhile, another 100 ground handling workers employed by Swissport are currently considering a revised pay proposal.
