LEADING law firm Harper Macleod has recruited Peter McLuckie, formerly Legal and Compliance Director at Baxters Food Group, as a Senior Associate in its Elgin office.

Peter, a corporate lawyer with specialist knowledge of the Food & Drink sector, had a long career as an in-house adviser at the highest levels of industry and most recently practiced at Inverness firm Munro & Noble.

He is the first major recruit to the firm’s Elgin office, which followed on from Harper Macleod’s acquisition of local firm Wink & Mackenzie.

Chris Kerr, Lead Partner of Harper Macleod’s Highlands and Islands operation, said: “Bringing in someone of Peter’s calibre is a great boost to our burgeoning practice in Moray. When we moved to the area in September we made it clear that we were committed to extending the full Harper Macleod offering of commercial, rural and personal legal services to clients in Moray, and were also committed to growing our team on the ground.

“Peter is a first-rate corporate lawyer with a great reputation, and has spent much of his career working within FTSE 100 businesses. We are renowned for having the pre-eminent corporate law team in the Highlands, Islands and Moray so it is a great match and we’re delighted that he has chosen to join us and be part of what we are building. He will be a great asset for the firm and the many clients we advise in Moray and beyond.

Peter McLuckie said: “I’m delighted to be part of Harper Macleod’s expanding team. I know the firm well and have been impressed by its growth and ambition over a number of years. When I saw it make the move to Moray it seemed like the perfect opportunity to become part of that growth. Chris and the team have a great practice and client base already, and I hope to help them build that further over the coming years.”

McLuckie has extensive experience of advising on business sales and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, commercial contracts (particularly supply and distribution agreements), regulatory compliance/professional regulation, company secretarial practice and corporate governance.

He has a Diploma in Governance, Risk and Compliance awarded by the International Compliance Association in collaboration with Manchester Business School. He is also Deputy Secretary to the Highland and Western Isles Joint Valuation Appeal Panel, providing advice to the lay panels hearing Non-Domestic Rates appeals in the Highlands and was previously a legal assessor with Fitness to Practice Panels of the Nursing and Midwifery Council.  He is a co-opted member of the Board of an Inverness-based housing charity.

Harper Macleod, the biggest Scottish law firm with an office in Moray, has a corporate and commercial team of over 25 lawyers and is recognised as being among Scotland’s leading dealmaking legal advisers.

The firm now has offices in Elgin, Inverness, Lerwick, Thurso, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Chris Kerr added: “We will not stop here and are actively looking for more talented people to join our team in Moray and across the Highlands and Islands. We see ourselves as the go-to firm in the region and will continue to invest to ensure we meet the demand in our local markets.”
