Five Scottish accommodations nominated for European tourism sustainability award

FIVE Scottish independent accommodations have been nominated for the European tourism sustainability award “GrINN Awards 2022” -organized by Quartz Inn Hotels- in recognition of their efforts in sustainability and environmental care. 

The main objective of the awards is to promote good sustainable practices in the tourism sector and to increase general awareness of the impact of tourism activity on the environment.

Hotels, establishments and tourism leaders from 23 European countries have been nominated and the finalists will be announced in the coming weeks after the jury deliberation. The winners will be chosen among all finalists after a public voting process.

The five accomodations are:

Aos Sí Lodges, Ballachulish   

Nominated in the categories of Best Luxury Eco Accommodation, Most Sustainable Female Entrepreneur, Best sustainable accommodation in Scotland and Best Nature Accommodation

A Victorian property overlooking Loch Leven and the Pap of Glencoe, Aos Sí is women-led, multicultural and LGBT friendly. The property is committed to providing the best experience for its guests but also seeking to blend in the environment with a minimum impact. They use eco-friendly cleaning and laundry products, as well as fair trade, organic coffees, teas and chocolates.  

Torlinnhe Guest House, Fort William 

Nominated in the category of Best sustainable accommodation in Scotland

Torlinnhe guest house stands out for putting guests and the environment first. They use 100% renewable energy and banned single-use plastic at the property as well as -whenever possible- they source ingredients from within 20 miles and recycle as much as they can.

Chasing The Moon Skye, Portree, Isle of Skye  

Nominated in the category of Best sustainable accommodation in Scotland

The stunning views make this property one of the most unique cottages on Skye. Among the sustainable measures put in place are recycling, reducing food wastage, banning single-use plastics, and the use of locally sourced food, among others.

Langridge Highland Home, Badcaul

Nominated in the category of Best sustainable accommodation in Scotland

Overlooking Little Loch Broom, Langridge offers visitors breath-taking views of the spectacular Scottish countryside.  It is located in the small village of Badcaul on the North Coast 500 route. 

Recycling and waste reduction play an important role at this property due to its remote location. Most of the lighting throughout the property uses energy-efficient LED bulbs and they have recently installed an electric car charging station.

Roslin Self Catering, Roslin

Nominated in the categories of Best Luxury Eco Accommodation, Best sustainable progress, Best sustainable accommodation in Scotland

Situated in the tranquil village of Roslin, this property has focused on reducing waste, limiting single-use plastic products, recycling, saving water and reducing its carbon footprint. In addition, they promote local restaurants and shops and encourage the use of public transport.
