Fifty Twenty-Two (FTT), a bespoke private consultancy helping athletes and high performers build long-term, hands-off income, officially launched in Edinburgh this week with its inaugural educational event in partnership with Masutes Group Limited and Edinburgh Napier University.
The event, “A View from Athlete Entrepreneurs,” held at Edinburgh Napier’s Craiglockhart Campus, brought together athletes, business leaders, and entrepreneurs to explore how the skills, resilience, and mindset developed in sport can drive success in business and investment.
Founded this year, based on an investment model that has been five years in the making, Fifty Twenty-Two was created to help athletes and high performers generate passive income through short-term rental property and alternative investments. Ex-Scotland International rugby professional, Ben Toolis, seeking a sustainable investment strategy during his playing career, connected with Masutes Group, CEO, Pav Masutes, who brought expertise in property investment. Together they have worked to develop an investment solution to overcome the challenges athletes face: short career spans, limited time, and the need for structures that last.
Ben explains: “When the stability of my playing career began to shift, it became clear that I needed something more sustainable behind me. That realisation is what ultimately shaped FTT. The learning curve was steep, but it’s the reason FTT exists. We want to help athletes turn uncertainty into opportunity and support them with a pathway that feels structured, sustainable and genuinely achievable.”
FTT operates as part of Masutes Group Limited, a company specialising in fully managed investment strategies designed for long-term growth. The consultancy guides athletes through the full investment lifecycle; from sourcing opportunities and financial modelling to purchase facilitation and property management, delivered via mySTAYINN – the group’s short-term rental management team with a proven track record across the UK.
Beyond investment, Fifty Twenty–Two also fosters community through The FTT Club, a private network for athletes, coaches, agents, and performance staff looking to build more than wealth by developing identity, long-term stability, and the confidence to thrive beyond sport.

- Emily Divine – Sport and Exercise PhD Researcher and founder of Divine Sport Consultancy, specialising in female health in sport.
- Dave Whiteford – Former professional rugby player and co-founder of premium whisky brand Against the Grain Ltd, with extensive experience in marketing and business strategy.
- Woody Morris – International sports journalist and entrepreneur, with experience in media, wellness, and business ventures.
