THE City of Edinburgh Council has announced plans to charge Oasis for expenses related to the band’s highly anticipated reunion concerts at Murrayfield Stadium next summer. The decision comes after the council allocated £40,000 for additional facilities during Taylor Swift’s sold-out performances at the same venue in June. This expenditure included £16,934 for security measures and funds for extra toilets.

A new policy applying a 100% cost recovery to commercial events will come in to force at the start of October this year.

Britpop legends Oasis are set to play two dates at Murrayfield on 8th and 9th August 2025 as part of their ‘Oasis Live 25 World Tour’. The tour, which marks the end of the band’s 15-year hiatus, will see the Gallagher brothers performing at various locations across the UK and Ireland.

Councillor Day said: “I don’t think the taxpayer in Edinburgh should bear the costs of that.

“Of course, these concerts bring tens of millions of pounds to the city and it’s hugely successful and we want that to continue, but the impact shouldn’t be on our residents.”

This approach aligns with the council’s policy of ensuring that large-scale events do not place an undue burden on local taxpayers.

This move by Edinburgh Council could set a precedent for how the city manages costs associated with major events in the future. It underscores the balance that local authorities must strike between attracting high-profile acts and managing public resources responsibly. As the reunion tour approaches, fans eagerly await the return of Oasis to the Scottish capital, while the council ensures that the city’s interests are protected.
