Edinburgh residents may soon enjoy free community events at the iconic Ross Bandstand, as the city council considers allocating £264,000 per year to support such initiatives.

The proposal, which aims to breathe new life into the historic venue, is set to be discussed by councillors in the near future.

The Ross Bandstand, a well-known landmark in Princes Street Gardens, has long been a focal point for cultural events in the Scottish capital. However, in recent years, its usage has declined, prompting calls for revitalisation.

If approved, the funding would enable the organisation of various community events that would be free for Edinburgh residents to attend. This move could potentially transform the bandstand into a vibrant hub for local entertainment and cultural activities.

The proposal comes at a time when Edinburgh is grappling with several significant changes to its urban landscape and economy.

Recently, the city became the first in Scotland to approve a tourist tax, set to be implemented in July 2026.

This new levy aims to generate £50 million annually for infrastructure improvements and affordable housing initiatives.

As Edinburgh continues to evolve, balancing the needs of residents with those of its thriving tourism industry, initiatives like the proposed Ross Bandstand funding could play a crucial role in maintaining the city’s cultural vibrancy and community spirit.

The council’s decision on this funding will be closely watched by residents and local organisations alike, as it could signal a renewed commitment to providing accessible cultural experiences in the heart of the city.
