NATIONAL law firm TLT has supported renewable energy infrastructure firm Field on its acquisition of 200MWh Scottish Holmston and Drum Farm battery energy storage sites from RES.

RES is the world’s largest independent renewable energy company with 40 years of experience delivering global renewable energy solutions.

The Holmston and Drum Farm sites, located in Ayr (South Ayrshire) and Keith (Moray), have a combined capacity of 100MW/200MWh. Both sites will contribute a range of services to the grid, including balancing electricity supply and demand across the grid.

Field intends to bring an additional 410 MWh of battery sites online in the next two years, now including this acquisition, meaning the firm has over 4.5 GWh of projects in development or in exclusivity with partners.

Corporate partner Kay Hobbs led the TLT team which was managed by corporate associate Tom Lawrence, with support from Joanna Hamilton (real estate legal director), Amy Campbell (real estate managing associate), Monika Koczwara (real estate associate), Fergus Charlton (planning legal director), Claire James (planning associate), Nick Pincott (PIC partner), Greg Pringle (PIC senior associate), Natasha Sanson (PIC associate) and Joshua Swain (corporate trainee).

Elspeth Vincent, general counsel at Field said: “We’re delighted to have been supported by TLT with the acquisition of Field Holmston and Field Drum Farm. When operational, the sites will bolster the UK’s energy security and contribute to the transition to net zero by helping decarbonise our energy supply. TLT’s understanding and knowledge of the clean energy market in the UK supported the swift completion of this transaction and we’re grateful for the support of the whole team.

Corporate partner at TLT Kay Hobbs commented: “Energy storage continues to play an increasingly important role in helping us achieve a net-zero grid in the UK and that’s even more so the case in Scotland where the capability of the current grid infrastructure is particularly limited. Having a future energy team able to advise on projects North of the Border is vital to us and our contribution to the sector. It was a real pleasure to support a fantastic Field team on their continued acquisition activity and their pragmatic approach to just getting deals done.”
