Hospital Pipeline Installations (HPI), a long-established specialist in medical and industrial gas pipeline systems, has entered administration, resulting in the immediate redundancy of 22 employees.
Founded in 1984 and headquartered in Paisley, with a secondary office in Rochdale, HPI has been a key provider of design, installation, repair and maintenance services for medical, dental, laboratory and industrial gas pipelines. The company’s client base included several NHS health boards and organisations across the construction, dental and medical sectors.
The decision to appoint joint administrators was driven by a sharp downturn in trade, escalating operating costs and a series of low-margin contracts. These factors led to recent trading losses and unsustainable cash flow, leaving the directors with no viable alternative but to place the business into administration in order to protect the interests of creditors.
At its peak, HPI employed 25 staff and achieved a turnover of approximately £3 million. With the company now ceasing trading, 22 employees have been made redundant, while three have been retained to assist with the administration process and to help safeguard company assets.
Blair Milne and James Fennessey, partners at Azets, have been appointed as joint administrators.
Milne commented: “The business was suffering from a number of operational and financial challenges and was coming under mounting creditor pressure.
“We will now focus on assisting the employees with their claims for redundancy and other entitlements and on marketing the company’s assets for sale.”
Assets available for sale include HPI’s former trading premises on Duke Street, Paisley, a fleet of around 15 commercial vans, stock and equipment. Interested parties are encouraged to contact the Glasgow office of Azets for further details.
The closure of HPI marks the end of a business that played a significant role in the supply and maintenance of critical infrastructure for healthcare and other sectors over four decades.
