Granary Quay Topping Out Ceremony

GLASGOW City Council’s ambition to regenerate the Clyde Waterfront took a further step forward with the topping out ceremony for Dandara Living’s new Granary Quay development at Glasgow Harbour.

Situated on the site of former grain warehouses, Granary Quay is a contemporary build-to-rent development that will feature 342 new apartments, many with waterfront views.  Residents will also benefit from a gym, a lounge and co-working facilities, house kitchen, car parking and cycle storage.  Apartments will include a mix of studio, one and two bedroom options and will be available for rent in summer 2024.

Lord Provost Jacqueline McLaren, Carol Monaghan MP and Kaukab Stewart MSP joined Dandara Living’s CEO Jim Davies in a ceremonial tree planting to commemorate the topping out of the development.

In 2020 Glasgow City Council set out a Strategic Development Framework for the River Clyde Development Corridor for the next 30 years that will create a well-connected vibrant place that supports a range of economic, environmental and social priorities.  Plans to develop Granary Quay were announced the same year.

In addition to Granary Quay, Dandara Living also has ambitions to develop a site at Anderston Quay overlooking the River Clyde.

Located on a derelict site in a landmark location next to the Kingston Bridge, the City Wharf development, which is subject to planning, will feature nearly 500 one, two and three bedroom homes for rent and 490 student apartments alongside units for commercial use.  Associated high quality amenities, located on the ground and first floors, will include a cycle hub, large open plan gym, residents lounge, and co-working spaces with views onto the River Clyde.

Central to the site’s design is the creation of a new urban park for use by residents and the local community.  New private courtyard spaces and recreational areas will be available to residents with extensive planting and landscaping throughout.

Jim Davies, CEO, Dandara Living said: “Glasgow is a vibrant, ambitious city with a spectacular waterfront and like many others is experiencing a period of change as we reassess what we want from our cities.

“Glasgow City Council’s collaborative approach to creating River Rooms by unlocking land and generating new liveable spaces has taken huge steps forward. As a business we have demonstrated our confidence in investing in Glasgow with these two significant developments. Glasgow Harbour is a fine example of this change and growth and we believe Anderston Quay will be the same.”

“Build to rent is still a relatively new concept in Scotland which is hugely popular in other regions and appealing to young professionals who are looking for high-spec homes in developments that are professionally managed and provide a sense of community rather than living in isolation.”

Lord Provost Jacqueline McLaren added, “It’s fantastic to join everyone and an honour to plant a ceremonial tree to mark the start of this exciting development at Granary Quay at Glasgow Harbour. It’s a great example of the continuing investment in Glasgow’s waterfront. Encouraging the growth of a new and distinct community around the River Clyde.”

Carol Monaghan MP said, “It was a pleasure to plant a tree at Dandara’s ‘Topping Out Ceremony’ to celebrate this fantastic new development. It’s wonderful to see investment around the River Clyde and I’m sure that incoming tenants will be delighted to move into this dynamic new community along Glasgow’s waterfront.”

Kaukab Stewart MSP said, “It’s great to see collaboration coming to the fore to enable the transformation of Glasgow’s waterfront, creating new communities that will support the city’s economic growth.”
