Dentons, the world’s largest global law firm, is celebrating another year of championing social justice and giving back to the community through the firm’s Scottish offices.
Activities conducted as part of the Dentons Responsible Business programme for the UK, Ireland and the Middle East (UKIME), which published its 2025 report this month, included fundraising for a local charity, investing in skills, and reducing waste.
Helping the community
This year, colleagues from the Dentons Glasgow office raised over £11,000 to support the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, which provides vital funding to enhance the care and wellbeing of young patients and their families at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow.
The charity funds medical equipment, family support services, play programmes, research, and staff training, so that children receive the best possible care and comfort during hospital stays.
Staff fundraised by taking part in the Great Scottish Run – Scotland’s largest 10K run and half marathon. Colleagues also participated in the annual Kiltwalk, Scotland’s largest mass walking event, travelling a combined 338 miles. The team also hosted quizzes and held bake sales at various events to support the fundraising.
During the Christmas period, Dentons volunteers collected donations at local shopping centres and visited patients at the Glasgow Children’s Hospital.
In Edinburgh, Dentons staff volunteered for six shifts with the Bethany Christian Trust’s Overnight Welcome Centre, providing a safe place for the city’s homeless population. The team shopped for, prepared, and served hot meals to an average of 50 homeless people across each shift.
Investing in people
This year, Dentons launched its Scottish Business Services Apprenticeship Programme across the Glasgow Finance and Central Belt Innovation teams.
The programme welcomed two apprentices to the Glasgow office, joining the Finance and Innovation teams respectively; with plans to expand in the future.
Over the course of four years, these apprentices will integrate academic learning with real-world professional experience, as they work towards completing their degrees in relevant disciplines.
This initiative follows the success of Dentons’ Solicitor Apprenticeship Programme in London and Milton Keynes and underscores the firm’s commitment to increasing access to careers in the legal industry.
Claire Armstrong, Managing Partner for Dentons Scotland, said: “By launching the apprenticeship programme we have invested in the future of our firm and the broader legal industry by integrating academic studies with real life experience.
“The first apprentices in our Finance and Innovation teams have been provided with alternative career pathways into the legal and business services professions. We look forward to expanding this initiative in the coming years as our apprentices continue to develop in their key disciplines and grow as professionals.”
