Date set for premier sports cup group stage draw

THE Premier Sports Cup will return this summer as the SPFL confirmed the date for the draw for the group stage of next season’s competition.

The tournament will become the Premier Sports Cup as the channel’s transition from Viaplay becomes official from today [9th April].

With the new channel and name of the Cup confirmed, the draw for the group stages of the 2024/25 Premier Sports Cup will take place on Wednesday 29th May at 1.00pm.

The draw will be broadcast live by Premier Sports and the SPFL.

The 2024/25 competition kicks-off with the first group stage matches on the weekend of 13/14th July and will culminate with the Premier Sports Cup Final taking place on 15th December.

Exclusive live coverage of the competition will be available on Premier Sports, with live match selections for the group stage announced shortly after the draw takes place.

Neil Doncaster, SPFL group chief executive, said: “It is great to welcome Premier Sports back as the cup sponsor and broadcaster of this competition. We have an excellent working relationship with the team at Premier Sports, who are an excellent promoter of Scottish football.

“The competition has become the traditional opener for the season, with fans eager to see their team in competitive action for the first time.

“There’s still plenty to play for across our leagues this season, but we’re all looking forward to another exciting cup competition in season 2024/25 with Premier Sports.”

Further details, including the channel and draw numbers for the group stage draw, will be announced ahead of 29th May.

Existing Viaplay customers will experience no disruption as part of the move to Premier Sports and will continue to have access to a wealth of football and sport coverage including the Scottish Cup.
