Customer is King as Balmoral Solar Installation Leads to Royal Invite

A senior manager at Moray-based thermal manufacturer AES Solar bagged himself an invite to the King’s annual garden party at Holyroodhouse after the company fitted solar panels at Balmoral.

Commercial Director, Jamie Di Sotto, was one of around 8,000 guests who spent an afternoon rubbing shoulders with royalty in the majestic grounds of the Palace following an invite from HRH King Charles via The Lord Lieutenant of Moray, Major General Seymour Monro. This isn’t the first time AES Solar has mingled with the monarchy.

The late Queen commissioned former managing director, George Goudsmit, to install solar panels at Balmoral following a chance meeting in 2015.

Almost ten years on, the company is nearing completion of the project’s second phase after it was commissioned to do further work in March 2024. Jamie Di Sotto, Commercial Director at AES Solar, said:

“The Royal Family are known for taking steps to reduce the carbon footprint across their Royal Estates and we as a company have been working on the second phase of work at Balmoral which features 20 roof-integrated solar PV panels on the Queen’s Building.

It was an honour to be invited by Major General Seymour Monro as a guest at the Holyroodhouse Garden Party for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. This for me, was a fantastic opportunity to meet incredible people from all walks of life and the experience is one I won’t forget in a hurry.”

AES Solar got the royal seal of approval back in April 2023 when founder George Goudsmit picked up a Queen’s Award for Enterprise for excellence in sustainable development.
