THE Association of Scotland’s Self-Caterers (ASSC) is excited to announce a special ‘Regional Gathering’ in Oban next week, on Wednesday, 4th September, in collaboration with the Argyll and the Isles Tourism Cooperative (AITC). This event, centered around the themes of Community and Collaboration, is set to be a significant occasion for the local self-catering and tourism industry.

Attendees can look forward to an engaging programme, featuring an exciting line-up of speakers, warm hospitality, networking opportunities and a diverse range of tailored exhibitors. The gathering will provide valuable insights into the latest tourism trends and developments in Argyll and Bute, with presentations from Key Data and SuperControl. ASSC Chief Executive Fiona Campbell will also share the latest updates from the association, ensuring delegates are informed on key industry issues such as the Visitor Levy, FHL Abolition and Short-Term Let Regulations.

Other speakers include AITC Chief Executive Cathy Craig and SCOTO Executive Director Carron Tobin, who will contribute their expertise and perspectives on the region’s tourism landscape focusing on responsible tourism in communities.

This event is a must-attend for anyone involved in the self-catering and tourism sector, offering a unique opportunity to network, learn, and collaborate.

As part of the ASSC’s commitment to supporting local communities and protecting Scotland’s natural environment, we are also organising a tourism community beach clean on Thursday, 5th September, at 11:00 am. This initiative, led by the charity The GRAB Trust, aims to tackle the growing issue of marine litter, which poses serious threats to our seas, shorelines, and marine life. The event is open to all, and we encourage members of the Argyll tourism community to join us in this important effort.

Fiona Campbell, CEO of the Association of Scotland’s Self-Caterers, said:

“The ASSC is committed to responsible tourism, fostering positive relationships with the communities in which our members operate, and protecting Scotland’s environment.

We will be putting our ASSC Regional Gathering themes of community and collaboration into practice through our tourism community beach clean at Dunollie Castle Beach. Marine litter is such a blight on our wonderful natural environment so the ASSC is delighted to partner with the GRAB Trust charity to support this initiative.”

Why Join the Beach Clean?

Marine litter is not only unsightly but also dangerous, causing significant harm to marine ecosystems both in and out of the water. By participating in this beach clean, you’ll be helping to protect Scotland’s beautiful coastline and the diverse marine life that calls it home. GRAB will provide all necessary equipment, making it easy for everyone to get involved.
