Certain areas of the internet seem to have ceased functioning due to a technical issue at Cloudflare.

Users visiting sites like X, previously known as Twitter, and the film review platform Letterboxd encountered an error message stating that issues with Cloudflare prevented the page from loading.

Cloudflare serves as an internet infrastructure provider, delivering many essential technologies that support modern online experiences. This includes tools designed to safeguard websites from cyber threats and ensure their availability during high traffic periods, for example.

“Cloudflare is aware of, and investigating an issue which potentially impacts multiple customers,” the company said in a new update. “Further detail will be provided as more information becomes available.”

Outage tracking site Down Detector, which keeps tabs on service disruptions, was itself one of the sites experiencing the technical issues firsthand. However, when it managed to load, it revealed a significant increase in reported problems.

Users impacted by the outage encountered a message indicating an “internal server error on Cloudflare’s network.” It prompted users to “please try again in a few minutes.”

Cloudflare offers its internet infrastructure services to businesses globally, typically in a manner that remains unnoticed by users. Consequently, a broad range of seemingly unrelated websites were affected during the outage, similar to the recent outage at Amazon Web Services (AWS) last month.
