THOUSANDS of homes and businesses across Renfrewshire can now benefit from the fastest, most reliable internet services available in the UK now that CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent full fibre platform, has completed work in a number of areas in the region.

Renfrewshire is one of a growing number of locations in the UK to benefit from CityFibre’s £4bn Gigabit City investment programme which will bring new and better broadband infrastructure within reach of up to eight million homes and businesses nationwide. The areas connected include Ferguslie, Millarston, Paisley town centre, Foxbar, and the Arkelston area of Renfrew.

Renfrewshire is served by two fibre exchanges, one of which is also being used to bring full fibre to areas in Glasgow, including Cardonald, Moss Park and Bellahouston.

Residents in these areas can now access the network through one of CityFibre’s Internet Service Provider (ISP) partners, including HighNet’s consumer brand, BrawBand, which is now live on the Renfrewshire network.

The next areas earmarked for the Renfrewshire rollout include Elderslie, Glenburn, Johnstone and Linwood. Once work on the full fibre network is completed in 2023, almost every home and business locally will have access to full fibre services from a choice of ISPs.

David Cannon, CityFibre’s City Manager for Renfrewshire, said: “We have made excellent progress rolling out our full fibre network across Renfrewshire and I am very pleased to be welcoming BrawBand to the network. It is always an important milestone for us when we see the first homes beginning to benefit from our infrastructure and I am thrilled that businesses and homeowners in Renfrewshire can now take advantage of our work and access world leading connectivity.

“I want to thank the residents in Renfrewshire for their patience as we work to bring our state-of-the-art full fibre network to the region.”

David Munro, Head of Product at HighNet Telecoms, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be taking BrawBand to Renfrewshire! We can’t wait for the people of Renfrewshire to come and join our network and take advantage of the benefits of a full fibre internet connection. Buffering videos and flaky internet connections will be a thing of the past as we look forward to an ultrafast future. The future’s bright, the future’s Braw!”

Unlike copper-based ‘fibre broadband’ services available today, full fibre networks use 100% fibre optic cables to carry data at lightning speed all the way from the home to the point of connection. This gives users consistently faster speeds for upload and download (up to 1,000 Mbps), near limitless bandwidth so everyone at home can work, study, stream or game simultaneously, while providing connectivity users can depend on.

Construction is being delivered by PMK on behalf of CityFibre. The team is using a range of construction methods while working in close partnership with Renfrewshire Council and local communities to deliver a fast rollout while minimising potential disruption.

As work is completed in each neighbourhood, internet service providers (ISPs) will ‘light up the network’ with some of the fastest and most competitive broadband packages available in terms of both data and price. Across the UK, CityFibre is already working with launch partner Vodafone to supply full fibre infrastructure for customers on selected Vodafone Pro Broadband plans.

Currently in Renfrewshire, services are available from Brawband and TalkTalk, with an increasing range of broadband providers expected to join the network soon.
