AN Aberdeen housebuilder has celebrated two team members completing a leadership qualification by dedicating a tree to the pair.

Sales Administrator, Jo Langley, and Senior Quantity Surveyor, Callum Cowie, from Cala Homes (North) now have a lasting legacy to remind them of their achievement, which they planted at the developer’s Oldfold Village community in Milltimber.

The duo completed Cala’s Building Leaders programme which is open to anyone in the company who has recently taken on, or aspires to, a managerial role.

Graduates are awarded a Level 3 qualification in Supervision/Management, accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management, at the end of the 18-month course. The programme comprises a mix of face-to-face and virtual learning as well as project-related work specific to each person’s role.

Tying into Cala’s Sustainability Strategy, recent graduates were given the opportunity to plant trees to mark their hard work and celebrate their achievements.

Callum Cowie said of Cala’s Building Leaders Programme: “I decided to undertake the course to take my leadership and management skills to the next level.”

“The course was great and I think it’s a fantastic opportunity for anyone at Cala to develop their career.”

Jo added: “Planting a tree to mark our qualification was a great idea, it will serve as a lasting reminder of what Callum and I achieved.”

Cala employees can apply for the programme with shortlisted candidates invited to an interview before the final selection is announced. Those who have embarked on the course this year will also have the opportunity to continue the legacy by planting a tree upon completion.

Mike Naysmith, Managing Director of Cala Homes (North), said: “Our Building Leaders programme helps to develop the leadership potential of our team and support them to grow with the business. It requires talent and commitment and we’re proud of Callum and Jo’s hard work in achieving their qualifications.”

Building Leaders is part of a suite of initiatives available to help develop and recognise Cala’s people, from apprenticeship schemes and graduate programmes to an industry recommended Construction Academy of Excellence, plus leadership and management courses.
