BUSINESS leaders from across the Highlands gathered in Inverness on Thursday to toast the success of local young people entering the world of work.

The Employers Celebration Evening at the Kingsmills Hotel, organised by Developing the Young Workforce Inverness and Central Highland (DYWICH), recognises the contribution made by employers to Highlanders starting out in their careers.

Across a wide range of sectors from agriculture and hospitality to IT and construction Highland businesses have worked with 13,821 young people through DYW supported programs.

These programs have helped to inform, inspire and encourage Highlanders find potential careers while helping them develop the skills they will need as they transition from school to the work place.

After an informative talk on the very personal nature of the DYWICH programs from Chair, Chris Dowling, over 140 guests had the opportunity to network and reflect on the successes from the past four years of the DYW scheme.

Speaking after the event DYW’s Andy Maxtone said: “We’re delighted to bring together employers for this event as a way to celebrate the support shown for the young Highland workforce.

“Everything we do is about putting the region’s talented young people in the best place to succeed and working with the local business community to understand their needs is key to that. The buy in that we’ve had from a whole range of companies and industries is brilliant and really helps local young people fulfill their potential right here in the Highlands.”
