POTENTIAL energy supply chain companies and stakeholders in the Outer Hebrides are invited to join a Meet-the-Buyer business breakfast hosted by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) and Comhairle nan Eilean Siar (CnES) later this month.

The event will be held at Stornoway Town Hall, Thursday 19 May 8:00-10:30am. Businesses will be able to find out more about the opportunities available following the announcement of the ScotWind 1 offshore wind leasing announcement by Crown Estate Scotland in January.

Representatives from two companies, which were awarded Option Agreements for projects in waters off the coast of the Outer Hebrides – Northland Power and Magnora Offshore Wind, will be available on the day.

Northland Power was awarded Option Agreements for areas N2 (north-east of the Butt of Lewis) and N4 (west of Lewis). Magnora Offshore Wind have been awarded an Option Agreement for area N3, north-west of the Butt of Lewis. Between them, the two developers hold the potential to generate over 2.8GW of renewable energy to support the UK’s drive towards Net Zero.

These projects are at an early stage and the initial focus of the event will be on development and seeking the necessary consents. Both companies will introduce the main activities, goods and services needed during different phases of the projects. They will also provide details on their individual procurement methods and how they will ensure opportunities are extended to local suppliers.

Joanna Peteranna, HIE Innse Gall area manager, said: “The ScotWind offshore leasing announcement is an important step towards building the next generation of offshore wind projects. It heralds a new era of major expansion in the region. We would encourage any business or potential supply partner in the islands to attend this event for a chance to find out more about potential opportunities the projects will bring.”
