Burness Paull has appointed respected commercial litigator Douglas Blyth as a partner in its dispute resolution team, as the firm seeks to build on its leading position in the market and support its growth ambitions.

Blyth brings a broad range of sector experience and particular expertise in the areas of insolvency, corporate and shareholder disputes, public procurement and judicial review.

He is recognised in the field of commercial litigation in Scotland by both the Chambers and Legal 500 legal directories.

As a solicitor advocate, Blyth has rights of audience in Scotland’s higher courts.

Joanna Fulton, head of dispute resolution at Burness Paull, commented: “We continue to see strong demand for advice across the full spectrum of commercial disputes, including cyber and data breaches, product liability, insurance and professional negligence claims, marine incidents, and insolvency.

“These disputes are often cross-jurisdictional in nature and we have invested heavily in building a team of specialists to ensure we can deploy the right capabilities and expertise for our broad and international client base.

“Having worked alongside and opposite Douglas in the past, we know that he is a quality operator who is rigorous in pursuit of the best possible outcomes for clients.”

Peter Lawson, chair at Burness Paull, said: “Our dispute resolution practice is a major contributor to the firm’s ongoing success and is poised to play a significant role in our growth strategy, which hinges on our ability to attract, develop and retain exceptional talent.

“Douglas is an outstanding commercial litigator who brings the right blend of legal expertise, commitment to client service and collegiate attitude that we look for in all our people.

“He’s an excellent addition to our partner ranks and we are pleased to welcome him to Burness Paull.”

Douglas Blyth added: “Burness Paull is a first-rate firm competing at the very top of the market in Scotland and beyond, with exciting ambitions for further growth.

“It presents a superb platform for the next stage of my career and as we continue to support our clients to navigate and resolve disputes.”
