Buchanan Galleries Shoppers Raise Record-Breaking £58,000 for Children’s Hospital Charity

17/01/2024

FOLLOWING a bumper Christmas, Buchanan Galleries has unveiled staggering results supporting its official charity partner, Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity – raising a record-breaking £58,821 thanks to the generous donations made by shoppers and visitors at the shopping centre during the season of giving.

The funds were generated through various activities held in the shopping centre throughout December, all aimed at spreading festive joy. Activities included musical performances by school choirs, local singing groups, and Glasgow Community Choir to delight visitors with Christmas carols whilst they shopped, a gift-wrapping service, plus donations from its flagship store and popular Christmas pop-up shop within Buchanan Galleries from the sale of unique Christmas cards and gifts, preloved baby and toddler items and clothing, as well as Scottish sustainable children’s clothing label, This Is Unfolded.

Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity supports young children facing life-limiting illnesses, their families and the NHS heroes who care for them. Donations from the public help fund life-changing projects, services and medal equipment to support the babies and children in Scotland’s busiest children’s hospital.

Buchanan Galleries has confirmed it is extending its fundraising partnership with Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity for the tenth year – having raised more than £400,000 for the charity since their partnership began.

The centre has committed to undertake various initiatives and fundraising events in 2024, including hosting a three-day pop-up Nursery Day on Friday 26th – Sunday 28th January, providing an opportunity for shoppers to browse and purchase an array of children’s homewares and furniture.

Kirsten Watson, Chief Executive of Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity stated: “We are truly overwhelmed by the incredible generosity shown by Buchanan Galleries. This amazing total is a testament to the unwavering support of Buchanan Galleries, whose commitment to our cause over the last decade has made a significant impact on the lives of the children and families in hospital.

“I also wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to everybody who purchased or donated over the festive period, contributing to this incredible achievement. This support enables us to continue our vital work, giving young patients and families the extra special care they deserve.”

Kathy Murdoch, Centre Manager at Buchanan Galleries, said: “Shoppers and visitors at Buchanan Galleries have once again displayed the incredible warmth and generosity that define the spirit of Glasgow. By breaking records and raising an unprecedented amount for Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity during the season of giving, they have truly exemplified the city’s compassionate nature.

“As a shopping centre, we are committed to making a positive impact on the community we serve and take pride in being able to support such wonderful causes and charities, including our year-round dedication to Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity. We’re thrilled to be continuing to support the charity and look forward to hosting more fundraising events and activities within Buchanan Galleries in 2024.”
