This winter, Buchanan Galleries and PEEK (Possibilities for Each and Every Kid) are joining forces to launch its Winter Warmer Appeal, a community-driven initiative to support local children and families in need as temperatures drop this winter.

For many children, winter means staying indoors due to a lack of essential warm clothing, such as jackets and wellington boots. The appeal encourages shoppers to donate these items to support local families facing financial challenges, helping kids stay active and enjoy outdoor play, while staying warm and dry throughout the colder months.

The donation stations are located at Buchanan Galleries’ main atrium, outside John Lewis & Partners, for visitors to drop off new coats and wellies. The donation bins will be available during mall hours until Sunday 8th December.

PEEK will oversee the collection and distribution of the donated items, ensuring they reach children, young people and families in Glasgow.

PEEK is a Glasgow-based charity whose vision is to support families impacted by poverty and help them to improve their health, wellbeing and life chances. Each year, the charity asks the public to support their Winter Warmer Appeal by donating coats, wellies or cash. This appeal enables PEEK to distribute the right clothing to children who need it the most, so that they can enjoy the magic of jumping in puddles and playing in snow, or simply make it to school and back.

Kathy Murdoch, Centre Director at Buchanan Galleries, said: “We have been working in partnership with PEEK for just over a year now and recognise the significant services they provide to families in and around Glasgow.

“Winter can be a challenging time for many and we’re proud to be supporting PEEK on this great initiative to bring a little warmth to those who need it the most this winter. Every donation makes a huge difference to children and families in our community, and we encourage our guests to help contribute whatever they can to support this important cause.”

Karlyn Robertson, Development & Fundraising Manager, commented: “Many of us take for granted basic essentials such as coats and wellies throughout the cold winter months. Unfortunately, one in three children living in Glasgow will be struggling to stay warm and dry when it rains or snows as they don’t have access to these basic essentials. This not only limits their ability to play outside but affects their physical and social development.

“We are incredibly grateful to have the support of our partner, Landsec and Buchanan Galleries, to drive our Winter Warmer Appeal this year. It is becoming increasingly difficult for families to afford necessities, and many find themselves in the difficult position of having to choose between heating their homes and buying the clothing their children need. We hope the public will stop by our drop off point to help us reach more children and young people this winter.”

Buchanan Galleries’ owner, Landsec are a current funding partner of PEEK. Last year, Buchanan Galleries provided financial support to PEEK’s Young Volunteer Programme, which supports and develops young people aged 14 to 18 through training and education. Additionally, employees recently volunteered at the charity’s Play Day Event, which offered over 2,100 attendees a day of free play, socialising, and hot meals.

Buchanan Galleries is open from 9am – 6pm Monday to Saturday, and 10am – 6pm Sundays. For more information, please visit https://buchanangalleries.co.uk/
