BTO Solicitors LLP is hosting practical seminars in Edinburgh on 15 September and Glasgow on 16 September to help employers prepare for major changes to UK employment law expected to take effect in stages during 2026 and 2027.

The Employment Rights Act 2025 introduces some of the most significant workplace reforms in a generation. The session will provide clear, practical guidance for organisations looking to reduce risk, update policies and contracts, and ensure managers understand the implications for day-to-day decision-making.

Amanda Buchanan, Partner and Accredited Specialist in Employment Law at BTO, said:

“These reforms will require employers to look carefully at how they recruit, manage, dismiss and engage with employees. Taking early, practical steps now will help organisations reduce risk and place themselves in a stronger position as the new regime is introduced.”

The seminar will cover:

* Practical steps to prepare for changes to unfair dismissal rights, including reduced qualifying service and the removal of the compensatory cap
* Changes to terms and conditions, including fire and rehire
* Auditing your employment policies and contracts
* Trade union and labour relations
* The duty to take all reasonable steps to prevent sexual harassment
* Immigration implications arising from the Employment Rights Act reforms

Dawn Robertson, Partner and Accredited Specialist in Employment Law at BTO, added:

“Employers should not wait until the reforms are in force before reviewing contracts, policies and internal processes. This seminar is designed to give attendees a clear understanding of what is changing, why it matters and the practical actions they can take now.”

The free session will also consider how organisations can strengthen their position when defending claims and respond confidently to the evolving employment law landscape.
