SCOTS endurance racer and British GT champion, Sandy Mitchell, has extended his sporting partnership with one of Scotland’s most iconic companies, Tunnock’s. Mitchell, the 21-year-old from Forfar, has been supported by the Uddingston-based company, famous around the world for its teacakes and caramel wafers, for seven years.

“I’ve been fortunate to have the backing of Tunnock’s since I first had the logo on my kart in 2014,” stated Mitchell, who will again pilot a Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo, prepared by Barwell Motorsport, in this year’s British GT Championship.

“Being closely associated with one of the most iconic Scottish brands has always been important to me, specifically in flying the flag for everything that is good in Scotland.

“To be able to further extend our partnership for 2021 is fantastic. I’m delighted to carry the Tunnock’s branding prominently on my race helmet, and this year the logo will again also be on my racesuit and the Huracan,” continued Mitchell, a factory driver with Lamborghini, in addition to being a member of the British Racing Drivers’ Club’s elite SuperStars programme.

“And there’s no denying by further building my relationship with Tunnock’s ensures I have the happiest group of guys working on a car in the British GT paddock, because they all love their Tunnock’s.”

Mitchell, also personally-backed by Huntly-based Black Bull Scotch Whisky, will start the defence of his British GT title when he partners new team-mate Adam Balon in the season-opener at Brands Hatch on May 22-23.

Fergus Loudon, director of the family-owned Tunnock’s bakery, and longtime supporter of Mitchell, is delighted to strengthen the company’s support for the defending British GT champion.

“To have been involved directly in Sandy’s motorsport career growth, from karting right through to becoming British GT champion and beyond, is something everyone at Tunnock’s is delighted with,” Loudon said.

“We’re pleased to further grow that relationship as he embarks on the next phase of his sportscar career.”
