BLACKADDERS LLP has boosted its rural team by hiring Ian Angus as an Associate. Ian is also a part-time farmer, running his own livestock farm near Huntly, Aberdeenshire.
Ian is as at home in a pair of wellies as he is in a suit in the firm’s office in Aberdeen and finds the hands-on experience of dealing with livestock, equipment and land gives him an invaluable insight into the issues his clients face every day.
Ian has owned his farm since he was 22 years old, having bought it during a break from studying law at Aberdeen University. Combining his passions for the law and working on the land seemed like an obvious choice when he started out on his twin careers.
He said: “I was brought up in rural Aberdeenshire, so the countryside has always been a huge part of my life. I have real life experience gained from running the farm and coming up against the same issues my clients face. I think that means I can relate well to clients and help them both with my knowledge of the law and of what it takes to run a farm and make it a success.”
Ian has joined Blackadders’ growing rural team and will serve clients across Scotland from the firm’s Aberdeen office.

The Rural Land & Business team at Blackadders deals with all countryside matters from the legal aspects of estate and farm management issues, rural landlord and tenant matters, succession and land development planning to the sale and acquisition of estates, farms, forests, salmon fishings and country houses. The team also advise on renewables schemes and sporting rights.
