Ayrshire College student Dylan Alexander will be hoping some first-class service can secure him first prize at the finals of the prestigious Nestle Toque d’Or competition.

The 19-year-old, who is studying Level 5 Food and Beverage Service, has made the final six in the Front Of House category after successfully making it through the gruelling head-to-head heats during a series of intense tasks across two days at The Grand Cookery School in York last month.

It was a day filled with masterclasses and challenges, including providing a dining experience for customers. Students were also given an interview at the end of the day to get to know what sparked their passion for hospitality.

The last stage of the competition for six Front Of House and six Back Of House finalists will require Dylan to complete a series of challenges in various locations that will test his knowledge and commitment to hospitality.

The Grand Finals will take place from April 21-25, with the winners announced during the awards lunch on Friday, June 7.

Joining the judging panel for the finals will be award-winning chef and restaurateur Tommy Banks and the winner of the 2023 Gold Service Scholarship and footman at The Royal Household, Jupiter Humphrey-Bishop.

Dylan said: “I’m ecstatic and the experience throughout this competition has really bolstered my college experience — I can’t wait to get stuck into the Finals Week!”

Katya Simmons, Managing Director, Nestlé Professional UK&I, said: “Guided by our expert judges, the competitors showcased impressive talent (in the heats), setting a high standard over both days.

“Best of luck to our 12 finalists in Finals Week — may they enjoy and make the most of their incredible experience.”
