Land Energy, based in South Ayrshire, has been named the winner of the Net Zero Innovation Award at the 2026 Confor (Confederation of Forest Industries) Forestry and Timber Awards, held in Edinburgh last week, recognising the company’s contribution to the ongoing progress of the UK forestry and wood industries towards net zero ambitions.
The award, sponsored by Tilhill Forestry, celebrates individuals, businesses and organisations that make a clear and measurable contribution to reducing carbon emissions and driving efforts to deliver the UK’s net zero aspirations.
Simon Bullock, Head of New Business Development at Land Energy, said:
“It is amazing to be recognised by the forestry sector for our steady commitment towards a low carbon, net zero future for Scotland and the UK. Uniquely, our entire production process uses almost no fossil fuels, and everyone in the team works towards creating real environmental gain.
We would like to thank Confor, Tilhill, the people who nominated us and all the other attendees in what was a very strong field that really showed the amazing breadth of talent in our industry and one we are all proud to be part of.”
Land Energy was shortlisted alongside a strong group of finalists including Alexander Mackinnon, founding member of the Project Developer Association, Cheshire East Council’s Net Zero Woodland Creation Programme, and Dr Vicky West (MICFor), who played a crucial role in developing the Woodland Carbon Code.
The Net Zero Innovation Award reflects the work being done across the company to support sustainable forestry, strengthen the UK wood fuel supply chain and provide a reliable low carbon heating option for homes and businesses.
In Case You Missed It:
The Confor Awards celebrate excellence and innovation across the entire UK forestry and timber industry. The trophies for this year’s awards were crafted by Ipswich based woodturner Shaun Clifford.
Founded in 2006, Land Energy is now the UK’s largest producer of sustainable wood pellets and briquettes, supplying low carbon renewable fuel to homes and businesses nationwide. The company also manufactures a range of sustainable products, including pizza pellets, cat litter, horse bedding and a new soil conditioner, Solivita.
